Off on new adventures

We're down to just two puppies here right now, and for some reason it feels SO quiet.  I've been in a bit of a blogging slump, a combination of extra work, adorable puppies, and just not being in the right frame of mind to write something interesting.

Seeing puppies leave for their new homes is always both sad and happy.  When you put your heart and soul into getting them conceived, whelping them, and ensuring that their first 9-10 weeks here are the very best they can be, emotions are running on high when we say goodbye.

The only thing that makes it worth it is being able to share this incredible breed with others.  I've met some wonderful people through cavaliers, and those that I've chosen to share with are no exception.  They rock.

There have been lots of "talk to you soon" and "please send lots of pictures" conversations around here the past couple of weeks.  My puppies are thriving in their new homes and I couldn't be more thrilled for them.

Comet is now known as Jax.  The sweetest most outgoing little red thing in the entire world.  There have only been two puppies to leave here with warnings about high energy, he was one of them.  LOOK how adorable he is in his new home.
 photo gh1_zps0619ccb0.jpg

We try and make sure they are well started on potty training.  Jax's mom captured an important special moment!  Yay Jax, you smart boy.

Tiger is down right lucky in that he ended up exactly where he was meant to be.  Every puppy has a different personality and temperament.  That is why breeders like me are adamant that it isn't a good idea for you to pick your own puppy.  Some are suited to be show stars, some want to be professional fetch players, some want to be a permanent lap dog, and others like Tiger DESPERATELY wanted to live with kids.  Tiger got to keep his name, and more importantly he's being adored by two girls he can call his own.

This gorgeous little lady is Jetta, formerly known as Rodeo.  Jetta is living with a very good friend of mine and we're thrilled that she has her.  Her main job is tiring out her big half sister Allie, but we're also looking forward to seeing her in the show ring and excel in obedience and rally.

Recognize this beautiful face?  Dottie, and all her mischief has gone to live with her Mom, Nika at Brinklow Hill.  Like Jetta, I will get to see her often.  We hope to see her excel in the show ring and she couldn't be in more skilled hands with Norma and Lang.

(updated) Mr. Skip is now known as Mr. Bingley and we couldn't be more thrilled with his new home.  They are very much enjoying his confident temperament and free spirit.  I hope that in time his new brother will adore him as much as we do.
 photo gh5_zps1f4071f3.jpg

Sadie's beautiful daughter Astrid is clearly stressed out about her new living arrangement.  She goes by the name Ceilidh now and her owner is just as horse crazy as me.  When they came to get her they brought me the most beautiful leather dog leash made out of an English riding rein.  I of course was over the moon. She will have cavalier friends, and all the belly rubs in the world.  What more could a girl ask for?
 photo gh6_zpscef5f25e.jpg

Meet Nelson or as you might have known him, Gus.  Nelson was named after Nelson Mandela and it is so fitting for this dapper guy.  He has a lab for a big brother, and tons of room to run.  As you can see, he's an athletic little guy and the farm life will suit him just fine.
 photo gh8_zps130868fd.jpg

Our beautiful sweet Sam is now better known as Baron.  Baron has the kindest energy about him and I knew exactly the family he'd be perfect for.  He's their first dog and I hope he will be a wonderful introduction to both dog ownership and our breed.   They are doing a fantastic job with him, and he is so lucky to have them.
 photo gh9_zps3c39f581.jpg

Mats, well what can you say about this wild little man.  He's a firecracker and he knows it.  As anyone who has visited here knows, it really is all about HIM.  Mats is going to live with a friend of mine but we have high hopes for his future.  We're looking forward to showing him off when he is old enough.  Until then, he will thrive on having 110% attention on him!

Hello?! You are supposed to be paying attention to ME!

To more blogging soon.... maybe.  For those who have tried to email me i've also been horrible at responding to those too.  If you are desperate to talk to me, I'd suggest calling.  I forsee New Years resolutions involving a blog and email in the near future.

Puppy update - picture heavy

We've taken lots of pictures the last few weeks!

Mylee and Molly humoured me in Halloween celebrations.  Don't they make the cutest farm girls ever?  Molly wasn't 100% cooperative but she tolerated my antics.  Mylee and I make the best pair ever, she of course enjoyed every minute of it.

Nika's puppies are going to be 8 weeks old this week.  Next week they will get their first vaccines, have their eye's tested, and we'll make our decisions about who is best suited to the wonderful homes I have in mind for them.

I'm sure some are wondering how we are managing two litters that are different ages.  The answer is two different setups.  The puppy palace, and the puppy cottage.

With it being cold outside, these little guys aren't getting as much time outdoors as I'd like them to have.  So we have done our best by setting up the puppy palace.  Even though the back part of my house and most of my dining room has been taken over with puppies, it gives them lots of room to run around,  With a few Goodwill baby section finds, and plenty of different toys rotated each day, hopefully they are also getting lots of stimulation and learning experiences.  They are still going outside, and interacting with our crew here, but the time outside is kept very short.

The little ruby guys got moved into the puppy cottage, eventually they will get to experience the puppy palace too.

Cottage life is so relaxing!  I think this is Sam.. Sam, and Gus look like twins

We also had a wonderful visit on the weekend from Remy.  Remy is Molly and Cooper's daughter from our litter in the summer.  You may remember her as Sabre.  4 month old puppies are notorious for being all legs, and very bald!  It was a cold and yucky day but her Mom really wanted to try and get some photos of her.  We weren't out very long, but I think we made out ok considering how yucky it was out.

Pretty girl, even if she's all legs right now

Sisters, they definitely knew each other and had a blast wrestling and running around together.  Remy in front, Coco behind

I love this shot because it captures her temperament.  She's always ready for what's coming next!

And lastly Miss Coco Puff.  We're off to conformation handling class tonight.  Miss Puff seems to love it.

To another busy week ahead.

Catching up

In the time since I last blogged a lot has been going on in our dog world.

  • We've had tons of wonderful visitors helping us socialize the puppies.
  • I've went to a couple puppy evaluation parties, and saw lots of adorable and very promising Cavalier babies.
  • I coordinated an MRI clinic where we scanned 8 Cavalier breeding potential dogs for chiari malformation and syringomyelia, including Loki.
  • I volunteered all day at our annual heart and eye clinic, and everyone that was due in this house for heart/eye checks had their cardiology and ophthalmology exams completed.
And I'm having some fun with my new toy, a new little lens for my camera.  That means yes finally.. new pictures.

My first victim with my new lens was Loki.  He had incredible MRI results to celebrate, and it was time to get an updated picture for his page.  My little man has grown up a lot.

Nika's puppies turn 6 weeks old tomorrow.  They are at their ultra adorable, starting to get into mischief stage.

Today, they had their first adventure outside.  It was a short one because even though it was sunny, there was a lot of shivering going on!  With some help from Loki they were all running around having a wonderful time.  He takes his job of teaching puppy play very seriously, I think he really wishes he could be a mom!

Comet, be prepared to melt with the cuteness

Our Rodeo girl.  I'm having a heck of a time getting a decent picture of this little one.  She loves to be on the move, and my hired help is a horrible photography assistant. He needs to be fired and replaced.  ;)  Tomorrow I will employ our puppy visitors instead.

Sadie is a fantastic mommy, I hope to get pictures of all her redheads next.  They are up on their feet and trying to get going.

Much to be thankful for

On this holiday Thanksgiving weekend we have much to be thankful for.

Beautiful puppies
Healthy mothers
and Wonderful owners

It's been both a fantastic and sad two weeks around here.

We welcomed Sadie's first litter into the world.  Sadie has proven to be an excellent mother.  She whelped incredibly easily and adores her babies.  We have four beautiful ruby puppies that we are eager to watch develop and grow.  Her owner and I couldn't be more proud of her.

Some people will be quick to say "WHAT?! More puppies?"  Yes, we have more puppies.  Yes, it was a very well planned and carefully decided upon.  Yes, Sadie has all her health testing completed.  Yes, the sire does too. Yes, we are thrilled with them.  AND Yes, they are all spoken for.

We also had to say a very sudden goodbye to Nika's little tri girl Starburst.  One day I will write about what it is really like to be a breeder.  The sleepless nights, the worry, and the heartbreak. No matter how you look at it though, you  just don't expect to lose a puppy at 2.5 weeks.  She was our little one that I spent all of those 2.5 weeks worrying about, supplementing, and doing the best I could for.  I don't blame myself but it doesn't change the fact that I'm just so sad over it.

Introducing; Sam, Mats, Gus, and Astrid

Sam wasn't being too co-operative about photos. I can already tell that these little ones are going to be incredible athletes like their mother.

Mats, any Leaf fans out there?  With a Swedish father it just seemed appropriate!

Nika's puppies are SO cute right now.  They are beginning to toddle around, growl, and interact with each other.  They just made the move down into our living room, so anyone who visits will be greeted by adorableness.

Comet, does it get cuter?

Miss Puff left on her new adventure Friday, she is living with my brother and sister inlaw.  Her name is really Cocoa but Puff was added, and from there... well you get Miss Puff!  We hope to show her a bit in conformation.  She has been to a few handling classes already and seems to be a natural.  Too smart for her own good.

Have a wonderful long Thanksgiving weekend Canada.  I just enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of yummy pumpkin spice bread that a wonderful Cavalier family brought today while visiting.  Cavalier people are the very best kind.
