Some familiar faces

So far, one of the most rewarding parts of being a breeder  is meeting and getting to know some incredible new people.  I always tell those who inquire about buying a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, that for as picky as I want you to be about selecting a breeder, the breeders you want to work with are the most picky about where they will place their puppies.

At the very bottom of my puppy contract it states:
By initialing the following: The Buyer agrees to maintain communication with the Breeder and provide pictures of the dog throughout his lifetime.  Not only does the Breeder take great joy in producing happy, and hopefully healthy Cavaliers, but pictures and open communication help the Breeder make future breeding decisions.
A few thought it was kind of funny and sweet that I would put this in my contract, but I really do mean it.  It is so important to me to see how the puppies I produce are doing, and to stay involved and connected.

So far, my wonderful owners have been more then up to the task.  A big thank you to all of you.

Here are just a few of the pictures I've seen recently of the extended Embee family.

Bucky - formerly known as "Spot".  Living with a very good friend of mine and still figuring out if he wants to be a show prospect or not!  Loki and Bucky get to spend a lot of time together.

Calvin - formerly known as "Super Bill!"  You can follow Calvin, Maizey and Magnus at Lessons From and For 4 Legs This lucky guy has an amazing dog trainer for a Mom.  He's learned so much already.  I knew she'd be the perfect match for this brainy boy!
Photobucket

Charlie - formerly known as "Chunky Monkey"  Living in the land of never ending trails and lakes, Charlie has two wonderful owners and a beautiful new doggie sister in his life (a long legged blonde :)  aka Golden retriever)
Photobucket

Hansel - very fondly known before as  "Fatboy"  Hansel has the most adorable brother and sister in the entire world.  He's a very lucky little guy with amazing owners!
Photobucket

Charlie - Our "Cowboy" This little man gets to go to work with his Daddy and be a perfect little breed ambassador, and when he gets home.. unlimited snuggles from Mom. The ideal combination for a Cavalier!
Photobucket

Boomer - Boomer was the first one out of our last litter to have his own name. This special little guy has a wonderful owner who has big plans for this boy.   He also has an amazing dog nanny and a cavalier brother who adore him.  The best part for him?  He gets to live far away from cold Canadian winters!

Meshi - our sweet little "Diamond" So much to say about Meshi's incredible home.  She has doggie sisters, and room to run her heart out...everything I wanted for this little one and more.

Missing from this update Kismet.   Oh my gosh look how tiny she was!  I look back at the pictures of her and I really have no idea how we saved her.. but we did.  Kismet is doing so well it really blows my mind.  She is happy and HEALTHY and I do get to hear about her often. She is never going to be huge but her ruby sister is little too!

and just for fun.. a picture of our VERY HAIRY MAN.  Loki and his siblings turned six months old this week..crazy how quickly time goes.

Ebby is temporarily missing.  She quite possibly was puppy napped and is learning how to be a farm dog at the moment with Molly.  I'll confiscate her soon for puppy kisses!

Happy Birthday Zozo

Happy Birthday to our beautiful Zoey!

It doesn't seem very long ago that I was contacting breeders looking for a tri-colour puppy for a pet, and getting absolutely no where.

Too young, too far away (inquiring from Yellowknife),  too picky on colour, too many questions,  nosey about health testing (some things never change).. I definitely was not the easiest pet owner to work with! Fortunately for us, we connected with Bonnie Sands at Jewelcroft Cavaliers and our lives have been under Zo's tight rule ever since.

With this face I should have known we were in trouble.

So stinkin' cute

We're very glad Zoey weighs 18lbs and not 80lbs!

Manners?  She has lots.. if she thinks you are watching!  All bets are off if you aren't. :P
Photobucket

Opinionated?  No, never!

While Molly, Sadie, and I were away all weekend at a dog show.. our furball somehow convinced her biggest fan that she needed a bone the size of her head for her birthday.. AND she could have it without wearing her snood.

Best birthday ever!

Happy Birthday you bad thing.  We love you so much!

10 weeks old and full of puppy mischief

It seems like my blog posts keep getting further and further apart... I do hope to change that in the near future.  Life has just been, well a bit busy!

Two of our puppies have left home to begin journey's of their own.   Our little Diamond is now known as Meeshayla or "Meeshi" for short, and "Hansel" was named by his owners a couple of weeks ago.

In typical Cavalier fashion of loving the person they are with entirely, they are both settling into their homes like they've always been there. Thank you to their incredible new owners.  I know you'll keep in touch often, and let me be a part of their lives.  You are what makes sharing this breed with others so worthwhile.

This coming weekend, Boomer and Cowboy (now known as Charlie) will also start off on adventures of their own.  What the heck am I going to do with no little puppies in the house?!  It seems like its been mayhem here for months.. I guess technically it has been!

We had incredible warm weather on Sunday and it was the perfect opportunity to get out and play with my camera.  Unfortunately my batteries died.. but I did manage to get some pictures I'm happy with.

"Garnet" who is in process of getting a name change.  I'm just not sure to what yet... Luna?  Lexi? Ember?  Ebony?  Lily? (I know if she's named Lily who she will be going to live with)

We shared this photo of our spunky girl on our Facebook page the other day.  She's sticking around for further evaluation as a potential breeding/show prospect.
Photobucket

We're going to have our hands full with this one, she loves life and then some!
Photobucket

Does that face say mischief or what?
Photobucket

Very pretty girl.
Photobucket

Charlie has been learning how to play fetch.  Zo has mentored this boy well.
Photobucket

Ready. Set. Go!
Photobucket

Zo and him definitely share an uncanny resemblance.. He's so cute.
Photobucket

Charlie and Boomer share a stick.. these two are trouble!
Photobucket

Boomer is the only one I didn't manage to get any decent pictures of.  He was far too busy for a photo shoot!  Boomer is heading to the States to do some agility.  He'll maybe dabble in some conformation and other dog sports.  His owners really wanted a dog with lots of drive and go....and well he definitely has that.  I think he got a double dose from both parents.  This little guy is going to keep her very busy!
Photobucket

Loki the hairy ewok is getting so big and HAIRY.  Did I mention he's SUPER HAIRY?!  I've never seen a Cavalier puppy with as much fur as he has.
Photobucket

He's fully into his teen ganglies and weighed 9.5lbs at the Vet last week.  He's cute but funny looking right now.  Good thing I absolutely adore him, and Zo and Mylee seem to think he's a pretty cool dude too.
Photobucket

Along with Charlie, Zo has been busy teaching this hairy guy all about frisbee. Bad news for Zo.. he's getting very good at it!

Happy Wednesday!

8 weeks old

Nika's puppies turned 8 weeks old on Sunday.. crazy how quickly the time goes by.   I took these pictures several days ago, and unfortunately I have no updated pictures to share.  It has rained every day since.

Tonight, our handling class is cancelled, the wind and rain is howling, and it is just plain nasty outside.  We're all curled up inside waiting for the storm to pass.  I've appointed Zoey as my chief bed warmer tonight if the power goes out.

We wish all of our readers impacted by Hurricane Sandy a very safe and uneventful next few hours. It's definitely a frightening night for a lot of people.

Now for some cute and DRY puppy photos.

A picture of Boomer that we shared on our Facebook page the other day.  He is such a fun puppy!
Photobucket

We know where his love of balls comes from...
Photobucket

Our very handsome "Fatboy" is now known as Hansel.   Or should I say Hansssome!  He's amazing gardening help.  This little guy is so disgustingly sweet and cuddly.  I think he's going to make his new Mom and Dad incredibly happy...even if he is the furthest possible thing from "blenheim girl" you can get ;)   I love it when perspective puppy owners are open to finding a puppy who best suits their family!
Photobucket

Little Diamond - Still a force to be reckoned with.  I love this girl's attitude and spunk!
Photobucket

Very pretty girl

Diamond and Hans looking super cute

Poor Cowboy is the only one I didn't get a decent picture of.. he'll be up first when the rain stops.

A poor attempt at a group shot

The hairy Ewok somehow got his picture taken too :)

Next up for me tonight.. extra blankets and a warm bubble bath.

A special visitor

On the weekend we were very fortunate to have a visit with one of Molly's boys.  His owners live several hours north of us (a 7 hour drive or so) and meeting up with them will likely always be a very rare occurrence.

Charlie very much enjoyed seeing his brother Loki, 5 little cousins, Mylee, and his favourite girl in the entire world.. bossy Zoey.

Charlie and Zoey.  Bad picture of Zoey, but it certainly describes how she was feeling about the situation!  Charlie doesn't care..he still loves her!
Photobucket

You may remember Charlie as "Chunk".  He was *so* much bigger than his siblings, and a bit of a bully.

Charlie is still the tiniest bit bigger than his other brothers, but unless you picked them up, or saw them standing right next to each other.. the difference was so minimal.  The nickname Chunk is no longer appropriate, Charlie has transformed into a muscular and very athletic little guy.

Handsome Charlie
Photobucket

Leaves everywhere!  Black and tan's just happen to look gorgeous in fall leaves.
Photobucket

Mr. personality definitely enjoyed posing outside
Photobucket

Loki really enjoyed playing with his brother.. mostly. They spent hours wrestling on the deck and running around in the yard.  It proved impossible to get a picture of them together.

One thing that didn't change though.. Charlie is still a bit of a bully, and Loki still got picked on.  It also proved impossible trying to get a photo of them together.  This was the closest I got
Photobucket

And this..one in focus, one not.  Yes... Loki looks like an Ewok right now. My good friend says his name should have been Wicket... I tend to agree with her.
Photobucket

Beautiful boy
Photobucket

His owners commented that Charlie doesn't look very much like Molly... and it's true, he doesn't. He's a clone of his Aunt Becky, Molly's litter sister.

Don't believe me?

Becky at the same age as Charlie
Photobucket

Photobucket

Becky fully mature.
Photobucket

Can you see the resemblance?  My bets are on Charlie looking  like the male version of his Aunt Becky when he is older.
