Sharing your life with a dog

Public speaking; something I have never been particularly strong at. I can be very shy and quiet in person until I get to know someone.

Over the past semesters i've been able to get to know my classmates very well. I have no issues standing up and presenting... until you call it a speech.

This week we had to present a speech on a randomly picked topic out of a hat.

One of my friends unfortunately chose "The benefits of owning a pet." Problem for her was she has never owned a pet! Perfect opportunity. It was an ideal topic for me and I could help a friend out at the same time.

I received some wonderful feedback about it so I thought I'd share it here.

My take on "The benefits of owning a pet"

Almost any animal lover would tell you that there is nothing better than sharing your life with a pet.

I often tell people that I do not own my dogs but that they own me.

Photobucket

There is a ton of truth in that statement. They have me completely trained and I am enjoying every minute of it.

Have you ever wanted a morning alarm clock that was fail proof?

School mornings start at just after 6am with soft nuzzles on toes or a furry body wrapped around my head. This is my daily morning reminder that two furry faces are STARVING and can’t wait a minute longer for their breakfast.

Photobucket

Owning dogs help me appreciate the small things in life.

Food is always worth celebrating.

Walks are meant to be taken daily, with time to smell the flowers along the way.

And always avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

But my utmost, absolutely, hands down favourite thing about owning a dog is the constant smiles and happiness they bring to those around them.

Photobucket

Consider;

An elderly woman with Alzheimer’s who hasn’t spoken a word in over ten years talking softly, but very clearly to my dog.

An autistic child’s face lighting up with smiles as Zoey plays fetch with him. She doesn’t care that he is different.

Photobucket

My grandfather in palliative care finding both comfort and smiles while a little dog is curled up beside him receiving pats on her head.

Photobucket

No matter what is happening in your life, what you look like, or what you are feeling; your dog will always love you, and adore you.

Unconditional, unwavering, non-judging; owning a dog is to be loved in loves purest form.

Victoria day weekend - dog shows, gardening, dirty dogs

My free days and spare time just seem to fly by lately. I can't find enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I want to.

Gardens and yard work to do, more boxes to unpack, dogs to bath, sewing to finish, pictures to hang, never ending school work; my list is huge.

This past weekend was no exception. I almost need a weekend to recover from the weekend!

Pictures usually say it best so here is a snapshot of what went on at my house this weekend.

Lots of yard work. Zoey helped cut the grass.
Photobucket

She has been green before after the lawn was cut; but never quite this green. Even her chest hair was green!

Plant and flower shopping! Lilacs, burning bushes, marigolds, purple pansies, impatiens, for someone who doesn't particularly enjoy gardening I definitely had fun picking out some easy things to start with.
Photobucket

I wish I had of taken a starting picture of our front flower bed. It was overgrown and in need of desperate attention. This is my first attempt at a real front flower bed. I'm pretty proud of myself even if it is basic from a gardening point of view.
Photobucket

I still have 3 large beds in front that need some attention and colour. I think I better learn how to fall in love with gardening.
Photobucket

The highlight of my weekend was our black and tan princess - Mysticmoon's Danika (Can Ch. Rabymar Adonis x Can Ch. Burbrook Rebecca's Last Fling) bred by Karen Murray (Mysticmoon Cavaliers) was shown at the Kitchener Waterloo Kennel Club by my good friend Marianne Creary (Cempa Cavaliers)
Photobucket

Molly took winners bitch and best of opposite sex, going over a special for the win. She took reserve winners bitch with a strong entry in the second show of the day. She looked beautiful, and for me it was a wonderful experience seeing our dog transforming under the guidance of someone else.
Photobucket

When I show Molly she is very serious and all business. She is focused so hard on trying to please me that she forgets she should be having fun. If she was a German shepherd it would be very desirable. Cavaliers though are supposed to be having a tail wagging fun time in the ring!
Photobucket

With Marianne, Princess Molly discovered that the show ring is fun. We also discovered the magic bait.

I'm kicking myself for not bringing my camera. I wanted to focus on the show and watch my girl carefully. I often miss quite a bit while trying to get the perfect shot.
Photobucket

Hopefully we will have many more opportunities to get some pictures of the princess in action!

Our Guests

Charlie and Tyson have been visiting while their Mom is on vacation. Zoey and Charlie have been the best of friends since Zo was 4 months old. He was the first cavalier she met out side of her breeders home.

Zoey 5 months, Charlie 4 years

Luckily for Zo, Charlie's Mom and I have remained very good friends too! It is amazing how dogs can bring people together.

Zo loves her Charlie, and Charlie loves to play the disinterested boy.. but truthfully he loves her too. They are adorable to watch, and we can't say Charlie's name in our house without Zo going madly looking for him.

Tyson and Mylee are almost the same age, and came to live with our families around the same time. It is cute because they seemed to know from the start that Charlie and Zoey had a special relationship so they formed their own.

Mylee cuddles with Tyson, Tyson pees on her, Mylee follows him around outside, Tyson pees on her, Mylee gives him kisses, Tyson.. well you get the picture. Love at first sight.

Does your dog have a very special doggy friendship? In dog years Charlie and Zoey have been best friends for thirty eight years!

Our gang together this week. Moving boxes and all; its been a lot of fun

Stylish Blogger Award

Charlie the Cavalier sent us a completely awesome stylish blogger award! It's our first award, thank you so much for thinking of us!

Charlie has asked us to share three things about us, and pass the award on to four others. Sounds like fun to me!

I decided that i'd like to share three things about each of my girls.

Zoey
Photobucket

1. Loves open garbage cans and shredding clean toilet paper.
2. Had a giant stash of my underwear under the bed in my office. Oh the things you find when you are cleaning up and moving.
3. Managed to get herself locked in the linen closet at midnight while I went wildly looking for her everywhere.

Mylee
Photobucket

1. Likes to sneak pee on the floor if given the chance late at night or early in the morning.
2. Enjoys dining on the Milton bunny population.
3. Has decided she really enjoys handling classes and will be entered into the CFSO Speciality at the end of June!

Molly
Photobucket

1. Fully embraces her nickname of Princess and then some.
2. Loves to steal fabric from Mom's sewing room. (Great way to get instant attention)
3. Can run like the wind. Molly easily out runs both Zoey and Mylee. I used to think Zo was fast!

We've decided to pass this award on to four wonderful CKCS blogs. I hope you enjoy visiting them as much as I do!

There is something happening at my house!

Zoey here,

My house is torn upside down. MB is doing laundry like crazy and ripping apart closets. My bones and blankets are in a strange house and the worst part.. its pouring rain! I'm *so* worried. Something is going on I know it!

Today we went and visited my new house. At least that is what they keep telling me. Whenever we go out and come home MB always tells me "home to Zoey's house!" We walked down the driveway and that crazy MB was saying "Look Zo, its Zoey's house!" Stupid woman was obviously lost. It clearly wasn't my house, what was she thinking?

Despite the rain my first impressions were awesome! Big giant yard. Lots of squirrel's. Oh and the grass tasted delightful. What more could a girl want?

My crazy red sister never stopped wagging her tail. She did make some strange sounds when we first arrived. I guess it isn't just me who knows something is up.

Our favourite part so far is the finished basement full of carpet. We LOVE carpet even though MB says lots of bad words about doggies and carpet. It is the perfect spot to run around like crazy and wrestle. I was so thrilled with the carpet that I went into cavalier zoomies. MB just doesn't make sense sometimes.

Photobucket

MB tells me that I'm going on vacation for a couple days to the farm with my sister. Something about not having to worry about us, and not stressing me out. I say any reason to visit the farm is a good one. I love going to the farm.

When I get home all of my things will be at my new house. She tells me not to worry but I can't help it. What if MB forgets to pack my food or cookies?
